Media advisory: Vehicle Safety Conference in K.C. tackles issue of preventable roadway deaths

ANNOUNCEMENT: The upcoming Midwest Commercial Vehicle Safety Summit, a U.S. Department of Transportation safety summit, will convene transportation safety stakeholders across the Midwest to share stories, information and to collectively commit to specific actions to reduce roadway deaths.

Key points:

  • Preventable vehicle crashes kill as many people in the U.S. as gun violence; yet get less attention than many other issues.

  • 250+ stakeholders in attendance, including:
    • Trucking association staff and members
    • Industry partners (large and small motor carriers)
    • State transportation engineers and behavioral safety staff
    • University partners
    • Safety advocacy groups
    • State and local law enforcement partners
    • Truck insurance companies
    • NHTSA and FHWA partners
